Is This Wednesday?

What a weird week it has been. Crazy busy at work, trying to cram in Christmas visits with family, and then back to work only to succumb to whatever virus Jason had been battling the week before Christmas.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas full of love and loved ones.

I was very happy to get some time with Man Child and The Girl. They are both just really cool people to hang with.

Just missed one of my brothers as he had to rush home ahead of the blizzard, but did get to spend some time with little bro and his gal.

The kittens had a fine day, with fresh nip and a couple of toys that they ignored in favor of a broken belt from the Dyson vacuum. Next year, they are just getting broken junk, it seems to be their favorite.

I finished the first draft of the story the Muse decided to torture me with. I fretted over it because it isn't novel length. Until Jason told me, "You have a novella, move on." So I moved on. I'm about three chapters into part two of what looks like a three part series of novellas. Part one is out with one pre-reader and I have another lined up for when life isn't quite as busy as it is during the holiday season.

And while we humans sunbathe in the summer, winter is prime kitten sunbathing season:

Into the Madness

Not quite sure how it happened, but I'll be working the 23, 24, 25 (okay, I signed up to work those), but what I did not sign up for was the one night off, then work the 27 and 28. That is going to suck major donkey snot.

We'll see if I'm still alive at the end of it.

Meanwhile, here is your moment of Kitten Christmas:

It's a Marvelous Night

..for a moon dance. Well, not quite a dance, but last night, I bundled up and took some blankets out to sit in the bed of Jason's truck to watch the lunar eclipse on the night of the winter solstice.

Pretty groovy stuff for a pagan chick.

The winter solstice celebration represents the return of light, the return of life, the triumph of light over dark, as each day from now until the summer solstice will get longer, returning us to spring, returning to the seasons of growth and harvest and life. No wonder the Christians stole it from us, it is powerful.

Jason loaned me his camera and after a quick lesson, I was ready to go on the coolest photo shoot of my life. (seriously, cool, like 30 degrees cool!)

This first picture is by Jason, but the rest are mine:

I did go back out to look at the red moon, but the photos didn't turn out. Sadness.

Thor is the Grinch

Are those cute little cats wearing costumes and hats looking so sweet for Christmas on drugs? This is what I get:

Thor sez: I told you I am a Norse God, I don't do Christmas!

The winter sunbeam season has begun.

Twosday!

Two things I'm happy about:

1. All was good at my physical.
2. I got a red cardinal (stuffed) to go on my all white/silver Christmas tree.

Two things I'm worried about:

1. All the people suffering in this economy who aren't having their true story told.
2. My friend with the special needs child whose family is facing choices that they shouldn't have to make simply because their child was born.

Two things I'm annoyed with:

1. The recycling of The War on Christmas stories.
2. Strobe light fire alarms that give me massive headaches.

Two boyz that make me smile:

Synchronized napping, it's all the rage.

Introducing Loki Monday!

It's the holiday party season, which means that Jason is photographing parties and needs almost exclusive access to the main computer for processing. So we shall move Loki Sunday to Loki Monday as to not disrupt activity which actually generates income.

Loki is such a bundle of neurotic cat behavior that it's sometimes easy to forget how handsome he is.

And So Ends No Shave November

I have been participating in No Shave November, a movement to raise awareness of prostate cancer. Generally it is for men, but women have been participating.

Now, I must confess that I did limit my participation to legs only.

It's been a wonderful month of much shorter shower times. But I don't have nice downy soft blond lady leg hair, you could put my leg up against Grizzly Adams' and probably not be able to pick who was who.

I've developed a morbid sort of curiosity now. How long will it grow?????

Loki sez: I've still got the hairiest legs in the house though, right?

In Other Beach News

I did manage to drag my camera away from the adorable Miss Skyler while at the beach. Now, those not familiar with the area, Seabrook Island is a barrier island and it has several channels that are technically the ocean, but aren't really the classic "beach front" with the rolling waves. These photos were taken on one such channel. There is a very steep drop off from the shore and a rather good size sand bar on the other side. This makes it a favorite hangout for dolphins. This day there was a pod out fishing, looked like some mothers and babies:

And where you have dolphins fishing, you have pelicans:

This isn't the best dolphin picture, but gives a good idea how close to shore they can come with the drop off.

Another great feature of these channels is that you can watch the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean!

Beach Baby, Beach Baby

How to make a Lowcountry geechee girl:
Take one California baby.
Place on Seabrook Island
Add sand:

Mix in small amount Atlantic seawater:

Result: one adorable geechee baby!

First and foremost let me say this, for once, all pictures by ME! Haha, fooled ya didn't I? Thought they were Jason's didn't ya?
Well, when the subject is as adorable as my little second cousin Skyler and the setting as beautiful as a lowcountry beach, all ya gotta do is point and click.

Skyler sez: Bye bye!

Yes I am Still Alive, No I am not Trapped Under Something Heavy

Sorry! I really have been meaning to put up a new blog post. It's just been a weird couple of weeks.

So my mom had a semi-emergency surgery. All is well now, but it threw a wrench into everything.

And then The Muse decided to make me insane. Seriously. Insane. So, I have this completed manuscript that I send around looking for a home. And I have my novel-in-progress that I've been moping and wallowing around with for about two years now, going nowhere.

And I have this horridly horrible two draft horror of a first novel. But I liked the people in the novel, just not the insanity I tried to march them through. Since it was my very first attempt to write a novel, I am not ashamed that it is horrible, I just accept it. Like when your second child is born so cute and you realize how ugly your first baby was.

I'd had for a couple of years wanted to take those characters and do a light romantic comedy type novel, but the idea just wouldn't germinate.

Well, it germinated. The Muse dumped almost the entire plot line into my brain, complete with pretty much the entire first 10 chapters all in the space of about a day.

So, I've been writing like crazy - close to 18,000 words in just about a week (and I worked night shift three of the days of that week).

It's a little consuming at this time.

Hopefully, we shall return to our regular postings soon. I wouldn't want to be responsible for any kitten withdrawal.
